POLISH CURRENCY
Polish currency is Polish złoty (PLN or zł), 1 złoty equals 100 groszy (gr).
There are 6 banknotes: 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 zł. Coins include: 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 & 50 groszy and also 1, 2, & 5 złotych.
If you wish to exchange euros (or other currency) for PLN, you can find exchange desks at border crossings, airports, railway stations, travel offices, hotels, and special exchange offices called “Kantor” in Polish. No commission fee is charged at Kantor. Cash machines are ubiquitous. Credit cards are used every day in Poland. Pay passes also became very popular.
HOW TO TRAVEL TO POZNAN
Poznań-Ławica International Airport is located 7 kilometres from the city centre, on the route leading directly to the most important points in the city and to Berlin and Warsaw. The airport offers direct connections to the most significant air hubs so that you can reach Poznań conveniently anywhere in the world. The offer of regular flights to Poznań includes over 30 direct connections to cities in Europe and Asia.
At the airport, passengers have at their disposal air-conditioned, spacious departure and arrival halls, travel agencies, an elegant restaurant, bars, banks, shops, car rental points and a Tourist Information point. The centre of Poznań is conveniently connected to the Poznań-Ławica airport by daytime city bus lines (number 159 - to the Railway Station and 148) and night bus lines (number 222). You can also get to the city by taxi, right next to the terminal. The ride takes approximately 15 minutes. The average price of a trip to the centre is approximately PLN 30. During night hours (10 p.m. - 6 a.m.), Sundays and holidays, the fee may differ from the stated price and be approximately 30% higher.
Poznań is connected to most cities in Poland and the neighbouring countries by an extensive route network of train services. Daily connections from other European cities are also available.
All trains coming to Poznań stop at Poznań Main Station (Poznań Główny). The Railway Station comprises the Main Station and the West Station (Dworzec Zachodni).
The Main Station is located above platforms 1, 2, and 3 and is connected to the Bus Station and the Avenida shopping mall. The West Station is located just opposite the Poznań International Fairs (Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie). The Main Station building has kiosks, shops, fast food restaurants, ATMs and tourist information points. The West Station is connected with all platforms via an underground passage, including the Poznan Fast Train (PST) stop.
Passengers can get to the city centre by tram or bus. Tram stop Dworzec Zachodni is located on Głogowska Street, next to the West Station; another one - Poznań Główny - next to the Main Station. In the vicinity of the Main Station exit is a municipal bus stop for lines 159 going to Poznań Airport and 168. At night, also night buses approach the stop.
Because of the road works in the city centre, it is suggested we visit www.ztm.poznan.pl to obtain the actual information regarding temporary changes in the functioning of the public transport system.
TAXI ranks are next to the Main Hall and the West Railway Station exit. However, It is advisable to call RADIO TAXI at a point in the Main Hall.
The Poznań Main Bus Station (PKS Transport Company) is in ul. Matyi 2, next to the Main Railway Station Poznań Główny. Opposite the station, there is the Poznań Główny tram stop.
The Poznań Main Bus Station handles domestic and international traffic. The station is available 24 hours a day. Ticket offices are open from Monday to Friday (except holidays) from 7:00 to 20:00, while on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 8:00 to 19:00. Ticket offices sell tickets in both domestic and international transport.
A Passenger Information Center at the station is open from Monday to Friday (except holidays) from 9:00 to 17:00 and on Saturdays and Sundays (except holidays) from 10:00 to 19:00.
The station also has a 24-hour waiting room, luggage storage, vending machines for drinks and snacks, currency exchange and toilets. The station has a visual information system for bus arrivals and departures.
